By now, many of us have been in self-isolation for almost a month trying to flatten the curve for COVOID-19. If you’re starting to run low on books to read and TV and movies to watch, Hulu’s got the best of both worlds; a plethora of film and TV adaptions of books.

Killing Eve

This Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series is based on Codename Villanelle, a novel by Luke Jennings, which was originally published as a series of four ebook novellas. It stars Sandra Oh as Eve Polastri, an MI5 agent tasked with tracking down Villanelle, a psychopathic, skilled assassin played by Jodie Comer.

A Simple Favor

This black comedy thriller starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively was based on Darcey Bell’s debut novel of the same name. A few hours after Emily (Lively) asks her friend Stephanie (Kendrick) to pick up her son after school, Stephanie grows concerned. After a few days, she discovers that Emily is missing.

Little Fires Everywhere

Based on the novel by Celeste Ng, this Hulu Original miniseries stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. It was just released last month. When Elena (Witherspoon) takes Mia (Washington) and her daughter, Pearl, on as tenants, Pearl soon befriends Elena’s children. As the families get closer, old secrets get out and new ones are made.

Shadowhunters

Based on Cassandra Clare’s popular YA Fantasy series, The Mortal Instruments, this supernatural drama follows Clary upon discovering that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters: human-angel hybrids that hunt demons. Later that night, her mother is abducted by a group of rouge Shadowhunters, led by the father she never knew.

Apple Tree Yard

This British television thriller is based on the novel of the same name by Louise Doughty. Yvonne Carmichael (Emily Watson) has an affair with a mysterious stranger (Ben Chaplin). Then she is raped by her friend George (Steven Elder). When she agrees to let her lover take care of him, she doesn’t realize his plan involves murder.

Catch-22

This black comedy war film is based on the satirical war novel of the same name by Joseph Heller. It is often cited as one of the most significant novels of the twentieth century. It follows the members of the fictional 256thUS Army Air Squadron, which has raised the number of missions before release from twenty-five to eighty.

Looking for Alaska

This Hulu original is based on the YA novel of same name by John Green. It follows Miles “Pudge” Halter during his first few months at Culver Creek Academy. Pudge, his roommate Chip “The Colonel” Martin, Alaska Young, and Takumi Hikohito become fast friends, and they weather breakups, crushes, and prank wars together—until Alaska dies.

Queen Sugar

Based on the novel of the same name by Natalie Beszile, Queen Sugar follows the lives of three estranged siblings in rural Louisiana: Nova (Rutina Wesley), Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardener), and Ralph (Kofi Siriboe). When their father dies, the siblings must come together to save their family’s ailing sugarcane farm.
